Japan’s Prossimo opens shop selling Czech shoes, CBD bar
Japanese hemp company Prossimo has opened a boutique retail outlet under Bohempia, the Czech shoe brand, and an adjacent HempToday Japan-branded CBD bar. The shoe store and CBD bar are located in Fukuoka, the capital city of Fukuoka Prefecture on the northern shore of Japan’s Kyushu Island.
A consultancy and trading company, Tokyo-based Prossimo started selling Bohempia shoes online last November, and has already completed one wholesale deal as it works to set up national distribution for the brand. The Fukuoka store is to serve as the flagship for an eventual chain of Bohempia shops in Japan, the company said.
“The locations are like an antenna for customers to come and see, touch, try, drink or eat hemp products which they can also buy,” Yosuke Koga, Director at Prossimo and Editor in Chief at HempToday Japan, said of the consumer-facing units.
Bohempia, based in Prague, makes sustainable hemp shoes, apparel and accessories in craft workshops in the European Union. The company also has distribution in the USA through CannabisNow of Los Angeles.
The HempToday Japan CBD bar is located one floor down from the Bohempia shop.
The HempToday Japan CBD bar is under a brand license from HempToday of Poland. Prossimo is the Japanese licensee of the international networking, news and information platform under a partnership that started in 2017 with the launch of HempToday Japan.
Located in a ground-floor cafe under the Bohempia shop, the CBD bar offers coffee and smoothies with CBD, and features hemp seed and hemp protein in its recipes. Several major CBD brands are being stocked, Koga said.
Prossimo is developing a broad hemp portfolio including CBD raw materials for food, textiles and biodegradable plastics, and is currently in outreach to establish additional commercial partnerships with suppliers of CBD crude oil, isolate and distillate; fiber, hurd, food seed, textiles and apparel.
In addition to HempToday and Bohempia, Prossimo also has established partnerships with the Japanese Clinical Association of Cannabinoids research initiative; Medical Marijuana 411, a U.S.-based cannabinoid medicine e-learning company; EACH JAPAN Co., Ltd., an importer and wholesaler of hemp and other cannabis products; Hokkaido Industrial Hemp Association (HIHA), Japan’s leading industrial hemp trade group; and the Taima Museum, a private collection located in the Nasu Highlands of Tochigi Prefecture, historically one of Japan’s major cannabis producers.
